Repair of the main road named Symbol Road in Shin-Urayasu was done late March in 2014. This is a part of reconstruction of this city which was devastated by Mar 11th 2011 Tohoku Earthquake. According to the municipal government site, the expenditure for this project reach to 55 billion yen. Just after the disaster, earthquake specialists said a huge earthquake would hit Kanto Region again within 4 years. 3 years already has gone by. Will a huge earthquake hit within a year? Is it worth reconstruction? Will this city be never devastated? Nobody knows. After the earthquake, I looked for another place to live. After all, I didn’t move. Densely built houses area might turn into a sea of fire. It’s better to be drawn than to be burnt.
As a record, I post pictures of this city.
I wish i have a photos before the earthquake.
Dec 18, 2013 was the final day we could walk on this road.
Back to three lane.
This lift floated in the air just after the earthquake.
A little bit of slope was built to make it on the ground.
This is not after rain. Mud and water spewed from the ground because of liquefaction.
All utilities except electricity were shut down for a month.
No gas, No water. Sewage was stopped.
Many families moved. Some places turned into offices. Some places turned into parking lots.
Some houses change their concrete walls into thinly iron fences.
This photo doesn’t show well. 1m(3.3 feet) crack was under this ladder.
It was repaired just for a month.
The jogging track was back to normal.
